Population Zeeland 1796-1799
In this group several sources are included that provide more insight into parts of the population of Schouwen-Duiveland, Tholen and Sint Philipsland, Noord-Beveland, Zuid-Beveland, Walcheren and Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. Because of the absence of many church registers (baptism, marriage and burial) in Zeeland before 1796/1811, these records of inhabitants provide information about the year of birth and in some cases the place of birth.
Zeeland Islands
The Zeeland Islands comprise Schouwen-Duiveland, Tholen, Sint Philipsland, Noord-Beveland, Zuid-Beveland and Walcheren. The records contain names of males eligible for conscription and persons who were obliged to contribute to the Civil Army. In fact these records contain all male inhabitants older than 16 and all the main occupants at an address.

Zeeuws-Vlaanderen
Records of inhabitants of a large number of towns and villages, compiled in the years 1795-1800. After Zeeuws-Vlaanderen was annexed by the French Empire the order was given to conduct a census in every municipality. There is data on all inhabitants older than 12, including surname and first name, age, occupation, address and, if born outside the municipality, date of arrival and place of birth. Please note: the occupations are written in French.
The original records of the inhabitants are housed in the archives of the Prefect of the Department of the Schelde, at the National Archives in Ghent (Belgium).
